A verdict in the case of three Irishmen accused of training FARC guerrillas in Colombia is expected to be handed down in February, but campaigners for the three insist that they will never get a fair trial in the war-tom country. The report of the Lindsay Tribunal, which investigated how almost half of Ireland's haemophiliacs were infected with HIV and Hepatitis C, has been passed on to the Director of Public Prosecutions, who will decide if criminal proceedings are to be taken against some of the people responsible. On this day, Eamon de Valera abolished the Oath of Allegiance, a provisional aspect in the Anglo-Irish treaty of 1921. This provisional aspect originally required all members of the Irish parliament to take an oath declaring their allegiance to the King. This date also marked when de Valera withheld land annuities from England.
