POLICE in England are hunting a man with an Irish accent in connection with a burglary during which another man sustained head injuries. President Higgins offers condolences on 50th anniversary of Guildford pub bombings

IRISH PRESIDENT Michael D. Higgins has offered his condolences to those affected by the Guildford pub bombings. Investigation launched after death of inmate in Dublin prison

AN INVESTIGATION has been launched following the death of an inmate at Cloverhill Prison in Dublin. Gardaí say a man was treated for injuries sustained in an incident at the prison in the early hours of Saturday morning but was later pronounced dead. On this day, Eamon de Valera abolished the Oath of Allegiance, a provisional aspect in the Anglo-Irish treaty of 1921. This provisional aspect originally required all members of the Irish parliament to take an oath declaring their allegiance to the King. This date also marked when de Valera withheld land annuities from England.
