Investigation after man dies following alleged shoplifting incident in Dublin

GARDAÍ have launched an investigation after a man died following an alleged shoplifting incident in Dublin city centre. The man, aged in his 30s, died after being detained by security staff following the incident on Henry Street on Friday afternoon. On this day, Eamon de Valera abolished the Oath of Allegiance, a provisional aspect in the Anglo-Irish treaty of 1921. This provisional aspect originally required all members of the Irish parliament to take an oath declaring their allegiance to the King. This date also marked when de Valera withheld land annuities from England.
