The inaugural Irish America Healthcare and Life Sciences 50 list celebrates Irish innovators who are leading the way in diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. The work of these Irish-American and Irish-born medical professionals contributes everyday to the health and wellness of our communities, from pharmaceuticals, medical devices and biotechnology to research and development and medical care.
Co-presented by ICON, plc., on September 25th, Irish America will celebrate the honorees in New York city with Inaugural Keynote Speaker Dr. Garret FitzGerald, Director of the Institute for Translational Medicine and Therapeutics at the University of Pennsylvania.

This item mentions reminds me of what I read in the ’70s or ’80 about Irish people who had spent their working years in the U.S. and paid Social Security taxes during all that time, but were hoping to spend their retirement years in Ireland. Attempts were being made by high ranking politicians on both sides of the Atlantic to make Medicare health coverage available to those retirees in Ireland, but such an arrangement has never been made.
