Origin 1st Irish Presents Des Bishop’s “Mia Mamma”

IA Newsletter January 1, 2022

December 29, 2021 by Leave a Comment

Five nights in four different venues across New York City.  Kicking off the festival starting January 6, Ireland’s mega-popular comedian and media figure (and Flushing native) Des Bishop brings us his new comedy show about the loss of his much-adored mom. This is the US premiere engagement of “Mia Mamma” which was beginning a national tour in Ireland in early 2020 before it had to stop in March. Eilleen Bishop, who passed in March 2019, raised Des in Flushing, Queens until she sent him to boarding school in Ireland.

Des, who survived this decision, is known for shedding humorous light on life as it’s happening around him. He once memorably taught himself Mandarin so he could perform comedy in Chinese.

His eight-month Chinese immersion in Beijing, where he opened a comedy club, was chronicled on RTÉ.  Now he returns to his native New York and to Origin 1st Irish (where he performed a run of shows back 2015), to tell a captivatingly real story of family loyalty, and of living through, overcoming and learning from huge mistakes.

STRICT COVID PROTOCOLS FOR MASKING AND PROOF OF VACCINATION WILL BE OBSERVED AT EACH OF THESE VENUES

Thu Jan 6 @ 8pm (An Beal Bocht in The Bronx)

Sat Jan 8 @ 8pm (NY Irish Center in LIC)

Wed Jan 12 @ 7pm (The Triad in Manhattan)

Sat Jan 15 @ 5pm (Arlene’s Grocery in Manhattan).
